چکیده
1 Introduction Harmonic resonance, subharmonic and superharmonic entrainment, quasiperiodic and chaotic behavior are well known to occur in nonlinear self-oscillating systems which are subject to periodic forcing. Harmonic resonance occurs if the periodic forcing signal has a frequency very similar to the one of the undisturbed system and results in an amplification of the oscillations.

Four-phase patterns in forced oscillatory systems
We investigate pattern formation in self-oscillating systems forced by an external periodic perturbation. Experimental observations and numerical studies of reaction-diffusion systems and an analysis of an amplitude equation are presented. The oscillations in each of these systems entrain to rational multiples of the perturbation frequency for certain values of the forcing frequency and amplitu...
متن کاملPhase-locking regions in a forced model of slow insulin and glucose oscillations.
We present a detailed numerical investigation of the phase-locking regions in a forced model of slow oscillations in human insulin secretion and blood glucose concentration. The bifurcation structures of period 2pi and 4pi tongues are mapped out and found to be qualitatively identical to those of several other periodically forced self-oscillating systems operating across a Hopf-bifurcation poin...
متن کاملClassification of Spatially Localized Oscillations in Periodically Forced Dissipative Systems
Formation of spatially localized oscillations in parametrically driven systems is studied, focusing on the dominant 2:1 resonance tongue. Both damped and self-excited oscillatory media are considered. Near the primary subharmonic instability such systems are described by the forced complex Ginzburg–Landau equation. The technique of spatial dynamics is used to identify three basic types of coher...
متن کاملChemomechanics of Self-Oscillating Gels
Biological materials such as cardiac and skin tissue exhibit the unique capacity to transduce mechanical stimuli into propagating electrical and chemical signals throughout the body. Few synthetic materials have been engineered to produce communicative chemical signals in response to mechanical input, though such synthetic material analogues could enable devices that mimic biological tissues an...
متن کاملMolecular Design and Functional Control of Novel Self-Oscillating Polymers
If we could realize an autonomous polymer system driven under biological conditions by a tailor-made molecular design, human beings could create unprecedented biomimetic functions and materials such as heartbeats, autonomous peristaltic pumps, etc. In order to achieve this objective, we have investigated the molecular design of such a polymer system. As a result, we were the first to demonstrat...
